Velma Lorrene Nicks

Velma Lorrene Nicks, 96, of Nokomis, passed away on Monday, March 20, 2017 at 7:20 p.m. at Nokomis Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Nokomis. She was born on June 7, 1920 in Nokomis, IL, Daughter of Albert and Mary (Grimes) Howell. She married Anthony Nicks on May 2, 1953 in Effingham, IL and he later preceded her in death on January 20, 1999. She worked as a cook at South School in Nokomis and she managed the Edinburg School Cafeteria for 25 years.

She is survived by her Nieces: Joyce Owens, Carol Beeler, Judy Spindel and Mary Ann Howell. Nephews: Lonnie and Dean Compton. She was preceded in death by her Parents, Husband, Siblings: Grace Nash, Lewis Howell, Leona Kroenlein, Mary Workman, Dale Howell and Marjorie Compton.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 from 9:00-10:00 a.m. at Sutton Funeral Home in Nokomis. Funeral services will follow the visitation starting at 10:00 a.m. at Sutton Funeral Home in Nokomis with Father Dan Willenborg officiating. Burial will be in Nokomis Cemetery in Nokomis, IL.
