Velma R. Calvert, 92 of Taylorville passed away on Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at 12:20 a.m. at her residence in Taylorville. She was born on September 30, 1923 in Mc Daniels, KY the Daughter of Ira Delphus and Leora Maude (Wilson) Stone. She married Ralph Calvert on October 12, 1957 in Taylorville, IL. She worked as a waitress at Kings Café, 48 Café and Bills Toasty. She was also a nurses aid at St. Vincent Hospital in Taylorville, IL. She graduated from Taylorville High school in 1942; Velma was a wonderful mother who made great sacrifices to care for her children. She had a sharp wit and lovely sense of humor. She was a faithful member of the Taylorville congregation of Jehovah’s witnesses. Velma loved reading her bible and looked forward to its promise of the resurrection of dead loved ones into restored earthly paradise. She devoted much time to sharing her bible based hopes with others. Her endurance despite many hardships and loyal love will be greatly missed.
Surviving are her Husband Ralph of Taylorville; Daughter: Bonnie Uptain of Little Rock, AR; Sons: Jim C. Wingo of Taylorville and William (Talya) Calvert of Clinton; Grandchildren: Kevin, Jon and Melissa Wingo; Christy Leach, Quinnie, Zayin, and Emerald Calvert; Five Great-Grandchildren; one Great-Great-Granddaughter; Sister: Coralie Beard of Mt. Sterling, IL; Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. She was preceded in death by her Parents, Daughter: Vicki, Grandson: Jackie Wingo; and three Brothers: Alton, James and Gordon Stone.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 2, 2016 from 1:30-2:30 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Taylorville. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 2, 2016 at 2:30 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses with David Patterson Officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville.
