Troy R. Achenbach

Troy R. Achenbach, 92, of Taylorville, passed away Thursday, May 21, 2015 at 1:17 a.m. at Taylorville Care Center in Taylorville. He was born August 29, 1922 in Taylorville, IL, the son of Walter and Ethel (Fesser) Achenbach. He married Virginia “Jean” Hiller Cies in 1971 in Taylorville, IL and she preceded him in death on November 30, 2014. A graduate of Taylorville High School and Millikin University in Decatur, IL, he eventually retired from Peabody Coal Company where he served as an analytic chemist for 30 years. He and his wife owned and operated Achenbach Investment Properties in the Taylorville area for over 25 years. He was also a veteran of the United States Army during World War II.

He is survived by his Son: Alan T. (Denna) Achenbach of Taylorville, IL; Seven Grandchildren; Eight Great-Grandchildren; Son-in-Law: Robert Jenkins of Elmhurst, IL; Step-Daughter: Dr. Janet Hiller of Missoula, MT; Step-Son: Craig Cies of Indianapolis, IN; Brother: W.B. (Jean) Achenbach of Naples, FL; Several Nieces and Nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and daughter, Dr. Sally Jenkins.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, May 23, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville with Rev. Jim Ferrill officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville. Visitation will be held Saturday, May 23, 2015 from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville.
