Treva Kathryn Sample, 91 of Edinburg, IL passed away on Sunday, June 5, 2022 at 8:14 a.m. at Taylorville Memorial Hospital in Taylorville, IL. She was born on January 31, 1931 in Edinburg, IL, the daughter of William James and Adeline “Addie” (Yeaman) Sample. Treva’s life was dedicated to community service. For many years, she served the Edinburg School F.H.A. Banquets and Edinburg Elevator Dinners. Treva was a long-time member and officer of the United Methodist Women as well as the financial secretary for the church for 50 years, long-time member and quilter of the Taylorville Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, head of the kitchen of the Edinburg Labor Day Celebration for many years and also Parade Marshall at the Edinburg Labor Day Parade, volunteer at Edinburg Food Pantry, long time member and officer of the Edinburg Lioness Club where she received many awards and recognitions including the Melvin Jones Fellow award, the foundation’s highest honor for her commitment to serving the world community. She coked monthly meals for the Edinburg Lions Club for many years and was known for her delicious homemade noodles, pies, and rolls.
She is survived by her Nieces and Nephews: Sharon Gowin, Jim (Sandy) Sample, Owen (Diane) Sample, Wanda Houk, Mary Frances Spengler, and Alice Ann Hart, Several Great-Nieces and Great-Nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Brother: Lloyd Sample, Sisters: Mabel Nolley, Lucille McDermith and Nephew: Bill McDermith.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 9, 2022 from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at Edinburg United Methodist Church in Edinburg, IL. Funeral Service will be immediately following the visitation starting at 11:00 a.m. at the Edinburg United Methodist Church in Edinburg, IL with Pastor Randy Burwell officiating. Burial will be in Edinburg Cemetery in Edinburg, IL.
