Shirley Conaway

Shirley Conaway, 80 of Taylorville passed away on Sunday, September 2, 2018 at 3:20 p.m. at her daughters’ home in Taylorville, IL. She was born on July 16, 1938 in Taylorville, IL the daughter of W.A. and Margaret (Young) Scott. She married Gary Lee Conaway on December 24, 1958 in Taylorville and he preceded her in death on October 24, 1967 while serving in Vietnam. Shirley worked as a homemaker and she enjoyed baking, watching her grandchildren play sports, Gardening and holidays with her family. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Taylorville, IL and former member of the Catholic Daughters of America. Shirley also volunteered for many years at South School helping the teachers and students with several projects assisting in their learning experience. 

She is survived by her Son: William (Tonya) Conaway of Mt. Zion, IL; Daughter: Tina (Tom) Link of Taylorville, IL; Grandchildren: Carey (Tyler) Carter of Clinton, IL; Corey (Lauren) Conaway of Taylorville, IL; Taylor Link of Taylorville, IL; Tarryn Link of Taylorville, IL; Taryssa Link of Taylorville, IL; Caden Conaway of Mt. Zion, IL; Great-Grandchildren: Jaidah Strocher, Ethan Carter and Dominik Carter; Granddog: Tumbleweed; Brothers: Donald Scott of Taylorville, IL; Russell (Nancy) Scott of  Irvine, CA, Leon (Beverly) Scott of Taylorville, IL; Sisters: Mary Lou Clayton of Mt. Auburn, IL; Anita Grundy of Morrisonville, IL; Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. She was preceded in death by her Parents, Husband, Brother: Bernard Scott and Sister: Catherine Bailey.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 6, 2018 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, September 7, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Taylorville with Monsignor David Lantz officiating. Burial will be held in Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville, IL.
