Richard Earl Black

April 12, 1950 — August 5, 2020

Richard Earl Black, 70, of Taylorville, passed away at 9:10 a.m. on August 5, 2020, at his home. Rich was born April 12, 1950, in Taylorville. He was a 1968 graduate of Taylorville High School. He married Suzi Denning of Taylorville on June 27, 1974. They later divorced. Rich was a proud Army veteran who served in Vietnam and he was a longtime employee of Illinois Consolidated. Rich’s favorite pastimes were fishing with his buddies at Lake Taylorville and cheering on his beloved baseball team, the St. Louis Cardinals. He very much enjoyed his weekly poker game; completing woodworking projects in his garage; and spending time with family and friends, especially his grandsons. He was a friend to many, and his humor will be sorely missed.

He is survived by his children Jeffrey Black of St. Louis, MO, and Christopher (wife, Theresa) Black of Peoria, IL; grandchildren Sam and Hayden Black and Shane Black; brother Don Black of Taylorville; sister Carol (husband, Joe) Stepping of Stonington, IL; and several nieces and a nephew. Rich was preceded in death by his parents, Carol (Molly) Griffin and Leslie Black; his brother, Jim Black; and his niece, Leslie Jo Black.

Cremation will be accorded, and a graveside ceremony will be held on August 15, 2020 at 9 a.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville.

The family has entrusted Sutton Memorial Home, 327 N. Clay St., Taylorville, IL 62568 with arrangements.
