She was born on January 13, 1947 in Taylorville, IL the Daughter of Wilbert and Rachel (Ennis) Griffin. She married Ron Hurst on January 13, 1968 in Taylorville, IL.  Margie grew up in Hewittville, IL and left school with only an eighth grade education. She married at age fifteen and had two daughters. After the tragic loss of her beloved Cee Cee, she returned to her roots. She met Ron and married him in 1968. They had two more children and through their forty eight years of marriage, they have loved and supported each other through the vicissitudes of life. Ron’s love allowed Margie to return to the world of education. She earned her GED and attended Richland Community College, Millikin University, Eastern Illinois University, and Sangamon State University where she earned countless scholarships and awards of academia. Margie used her Master’s Degree in English, Bachelor’s Degree in Spanish, and Master’s in Education Administration to shape young lives at Edinburg CUSD, Blue Mound CUSD, and finally at Meridian CUSD where she retired after thirty years of service in 2010. She loved poetry and she published her collection of poems, little griffin in 1983. Margie was a strong, giving, unique, and fiercely loyal woman who loved and treasured dearly all her family and extended family. More than anything she adored her grandchildren Rachel, Rick, Griffin, and Brady Ray. Margie will forever run through the hollyhocks with her beloved mother, Rachel, baby Cee Cee, and her brothers Bubby and Billy.

To Ron and family,
We were so sorry to hear of Margie's death. Please know you are in our thoughts and prayers. We remember seeing her at class reunions and knowing that she was a well-educated lady. However, we did not know of her life history. What an inspiration she must have been to her children, family and all who knew her! Please accept our sincerest condolences.
