Frances D. Sutton

Frances D. Sutton. 101 of Taylorville, passed away on Friday, March 20, 2020 at 11;35 a.m. at Hickory Estates in Taylorville, IL. She was born on November 22, 1918 in Taylorville, IL the daughter of Cecil & Julia (Gent) Sutton. Frances served as City Clerk for Taylorville for 14 years, retiring in 1989 and was an assistance secretary at First Federal Savings & Loan (formerly United Savings) for 40 years. Frances was the past president and 50year member of the Taylorville Business & Professional Women’s Club, a member of Catholic Daughters of America Court for over 50 years, and a member of the Christian County Historical Society and the St. Vincent Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.

She is survived by her brother; Clark (Loretta) Sutton of Orlando, FL, cousin; Phyllis Merkel of Pana, IL and a nephew; Timothy Sutton of Orlando, FL. Frances was preceded in death by her parents and nephew; Shawn Sutton.

She was laid to rest on Wednesday, April 8, 2020 in Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville, IL and Father Joe Ring officiated the private graveside service.  Due to the Covid-19 virus a formal visitation and funeral mass were not held at this time. However, a funeral mass in her honor will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church a later date.
