Edward Laverne Craig Sr. 77, of Chatham formerly of Pawnee, was joyfully greeted by his wife as he entered Heaven on Sunday, December 5, 2021 at 8:43 a.m. at his daughters’ residence in Pawnee, IL. He was born on January 26, 1944 in Taylorville, IL the son of Leland and Josephine (Brown) Craig. He married his beautiful bride, Judith Ann Irwin, on August 29, 1965 in the Pawnee Methodist Church and she preceded him in death on February 27, 2019. Ed worked as a coal miner at Peabody Mine #10 for 33 years and then as a door greeter at Meijer in Springfield, IL. He also owned a jewelry store in Pawnee, IL and thoroughly enjoyed doing watch and jewelry repair on the side as a hobby.
He is survived by his daughter: Kathleen (Matt) Crocker of Pawnee, IL, Son: Eddie Craig Jr. of Belleville, IL, Grandchildren: Heather (Eric) Saunders of Abingdon, MD and Matt (Kate) Crocker of New Berlin, IL, Great-Grandchildren: Jackson and Jonah Saunders of Abingdon, MD, several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded by parents, wife and brother: Leland Jr.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 10, 2021 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville. The family requests that we follow CDC guidelines and require that masks be worn. Funeral service will be held immediately following the visitation starting at 7:00 p.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville with Pastor Brian Mills officiating. Inurnment will be in Walnut Hill Cemetery at a later date.
