Donald G. Smith

Donald G. Smith, 77 of Springfield formerly of Taylorville passed away on Thursday, November 29, 2018 at 12:55 p.m. at his home in Springfield, IL. He was born on November 2, 1941 in Morrisonville, IL the son of Ernest and Mary M. (Deon) Smith. He married Betty Harvell on June 29, 1976 in Las Vegas, NV and she preceded him in death on August 27, 2012. Donald worked as a coal miner and he was a truck driver.

He is survived by his Sisters: Helen Barding of Taylorville, IL; Mary Kelley of Wood River, IL; Joyce Lutchka of Petersburg, IL; step-Sons: Tom Harvel of Taylorville, IL; Steven “Zeke” Harvel of Oregon; step-Daughters: Cherilyn Mundhenke of Morrisonville, IL; Christine Painter of Las Vegas, NV; Kathleen Hemmer of Oregon; Melissa Randolph of Texas; Grandchildren: Mark Allen and Matthew Randolph of Texas and numerous other grandchildren, great-grandchildren, Nieces and Nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Brothers Harold, Ernest, Clayton, Victor and Glenn Smith; Sisters: Reba Best, Louise Mrotzek, Roseane Mefford, Betty Neikes.

Memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville.. Inurnment will be held at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens in Taylorville, IL with military graveside honors.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
