Clifton E. “Gene” Black, 85, of Taylorville died on Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at 3:47 A.M. in his home.  He was born August 25, 1931 in Haleyville, AL to William Isaac and Grace (West) Black.  He married Carol Mathon on June 5, 1955 in Taylorville, IL.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army where he was stationed in Germany.  As a young man, he was a broadcast engineer for WTIM in Taylorville and WMAY in Springfield and a television repairman at Higgason TV and Appliance.  Gene and his wife spent many hours remodeling houses for his children and grandchildren which taught them the value of hard work and dedication.  In the later years, “The Chief” became the project manager of the house remodels and new construction builds, watching his family follow in his footsteps. He was a loyal Cubs fan for many years and enjoyed watching them win their 100th game this season. “Poppa” as many knew him loved his family and was always greeting his grandchildren and great grandchildren with treats when they came over to play.

To Carol and Family: Gene was a very special person. He worked for my father for many years and definitely helped my Dad build his business, and he kept him grounded on Dad's crabby days. Gene will always have a special place in my heart. Sincerely, Karen Higgason Popejoy

Condolences to the family,

Psalm 90:10 states that a normal life span is 70 years but if because of special mightiness 80.

Mr. Black certainly lived a long life and I'm sure was dearly loved by his family and friends.

Jesus after assuring us at Matthew 10:29-31, that the fall of one Sparrow to the ground caught the attention of our Heavenly Father, went on to say to his listeners: "So have no fear; you are worth more than many sparrows."

Yes, Mr. Black too, is worth more than many Sparrows and surely his demise caught the attention of our Heavenly Father as well.

And our Heavenly Father provides comfort and assurance to Mr. Blacks' surviving loved ones and friends in his promises to soon, yes very soon, to bring about a changed condition to this earth, a time when sickness and death will be done away with (Rev. 21:4, 5) and instead of a losing of life there will be a bringing back to life. (John 5:28, 29).

Again, please accept my sincere condolences.
